What: Saturday Safari: “Creature Feature”
When: May 6th, 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.
Where: Gladys Porter Zoo, South Texas Discovery Education Center
Do you know why animals have such unique characteristics? At this Saturday Safari class, take a close look at some of the Zoo creature and their unique features. A Zoo tour, arts & crafts, animal encounter and snacks are included in each class. Cost is $15 per child or adult with a $5 discount for Zoo members. What: Saturday Safari: “Extreme Life-Cycles”
When: May 13th, 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.
Where: Gladys Porter Zoo, South Texas Discovery Education Center
Some of the world’s smallest creatures undergo the most extreme physical changes. Get a firsthand look at the metamorphosis of some of the Zoo’s critters. A Zoo tour, arts & crafts, animal encounter and snacks are included in each class. Cost is $15 per child or adult with a $5 discount for Zoo members. What: Animal Play Day
When: May 14th, 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
Where: Gladys Porter Zoo.
Animal Play Days are scheduled events where Zoo animals are given enrichment items that have a specific theme. For this Play Day, Zoo residents will be celebrating Mother’s Day! Keepers will begin distributing enrichment items at Gorilla Island at 11:00 a.m. and will spread out to the surrounding exhibits throughout the day. Animal enrichment provides novel food and play items to stimulate and entertain zoo inhabitants. It is performed on a daily basis at the Zoo and is a vital component essential to the health and well-being of our animal collection. This event is free with the purchase of general admission or Zoo membership. For more information, call the Zoo at (956) 546-7187.
What: M.O.M. Orangutan Enrichment
When: May 14th, 9:30 a.m., 11:30 a.m., 1:30 p.m., and 3:30 p.m.
Where: Gladys Porter Zoo
On Sunday, May 14th, the Zoo will participate in an international campaign to bring attention to the plight of orangutans in the wild. Staff will be giving enrichment items to the orangutans at different times throughout the day. Animal enrichment provides novel food and play items to stimulate and entertain zoo inhabitants. An educational booth will also be set up under the orangutan palapa. Donations will be accepted and all proceeds will go directly to the Missing Orangutan Mothers (M.O.M.) campaign. This event is free with the purchase of general admission or Zoo membership. For more information, call (956) 546-7187.
What: Saturday Safari: “Habitat Sweet Habitat”
When: May 20th, 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.
Where: Gladys Porter Zoo, South Texas Discovery Education Center
At this Saturday Safari, you’ll learn what different animals consider “home”. A Zoo tour, arts & crafts, animal encounter and snacks are included in each class. Cost is $15 per child or adult with a $5 discount for Zoo members. Pre-registration is required and space is limited.
