McAllen Public Library invites you to the first Local Author Showcase, featuring a selection of authors from the Rio Grande Valley.  Writers participating in the author showcase were selected through a competitive process. The event will be held at the Main Library from 10a.m. – 1:00p.m.

The Local Author Showcase will consist of publishing basics, led by McAllen resident and author of Architecture of The Lower Rio Grande Valley: An Introduction, Pino Shah. Shah will give an overview of book publishing and will be available to answer questions about the process from audience members. Immediately following the presentation, the author showcase will highlight local authors and their works. The event will conclude with an author reception and book sale.

“McAllen Public Library recognizes the literary talent of our community. The Local Author Showcase will bring many authors together and allow the public to discover new and important works being written right here in the Rio Grande Valley,” said Roberto Zapata, Assistant Director of Public Services. “Local authors have the ability to capture our collective experience and share it with the world. We are excited to offer this program for our community to highlight our local talent.”

Featured local authors include: Christina DeMara, Gabriel Hugo Sanchez, Edward Vidaurre, Shoney Flores, Ernest Francis Schanilec, Richard Sanchez, Nely Gonzalez, Stephen Mark Pantoja, Katelynn Renteria, Patty York Raymond, Alissa Karin Shirah, Eduardo Lozano, and Teresa Stern.
