While we have loved this house for almost twenty-five years, the opportunity to move into my childhood home across the street finally happened!  Old Towne is a wonderful neighborhood; the neighbors are lovely, it’s quiet, and the birds love it, too!

The house sits on two lots, the home sits on one, and the other is purely backyard space.  We’ve loved lazy days by the pool and indoor/outdoor gatherings.  Originally built in the 1940s, this house was added on to several times before we purchased it in 2000.

The house looks deceiving from the outside, but it is between 2,800 and 3,000 square feet (we are going to have it professionally measured this week). It boasts three living areas, an office, a laundry room with a small utility room/bathroom, a primary bedroom and bathroom, and two additional bedrooms with a shared bath. Totaling three bedrooms and 2.5 baths, it’s a very open concept, perfect for entertaining!

Old Towne McAllen is a wonderful place to live. Our first home was at 1208 Nyssa and prior to that, we rented on Maple.  There’s no place we’d rather be!

I wish I had taken better photos before we started packing!

About The House

  • Sits on two lots, combined lot size 13,800 square feet.
  • The house is approximately 3,000 square feet.
  • Split floorplan, with three bedrooms, 2.5 bathrooms (Master suite on one side of the house, and two bedrooms/bathroom on the other side).
  • Master Suite with large bathroom, not typically found in Old Towne.
  • Swimming pool (with natural gas heater).
  • Three living areas plus an office area.
  • The galley kitchen was remodeled in 2020. It has Culligan water, a Kitchen Aid double oven, a Kitchen Aid induction cooktop, quartz countertops, and quartz backsplash. The cabinets have hidden electric outlets and pull-out drawers.
  • Laundry room with utility room and bathroom.
  • There is a two-car garage with shelving and peg board.
  • An outdoor pavilion with stained concrete is perfect for entertaining. An additional 10×20 slab was poured—ideal for an outdoor kitchen (we ran out of time for that project!).
  • Sprinkler system with drip irrigation.
  • Ability to flood irrigate with Hidalgo County Water District #3.
  • Wood shutters are throughout most of the house (minus the windows in the second living room—we love being able to see the pool).
  • French drains around the perimeter of the house.
  • The back gate opens for a BBQ pit or boat storage, with a stained concrete slab.
  • Water feature, lush landscaping in front and back of the house.
  • Landscape lighting on trees in front of the house.
  • Natural gas water heater, pool heater.
  • The front part of the house (living area, two bedrooms, one bath, kitchen) is on pier and beam.
  • Original hardwood floors in the formal living room and two bedrooms.
  • Kitchen hardwood floors were installed in the early 2000s.

Recent Improvements:

  • We completed a kitchen remodel in 2020. We installed a KitchenAid induction cooktop, KitchenAid double oven, KitchenAid vent fan, installed a new disposal, refinished the hardwood floors, and installed new cabinets with pull out shelves. The dishwasher was replaced in 2023 (KitchenAid).
  • Swimming pool addition in 2020, M & L Pools. The pool equipment has a covered area to protect it from the sun. Natural gas heater.
  • Complete house rewiring/electrical and electric lines buried in 2020, G & G Electric..
  • French drains around the perimeter were installed in 2023.
  • In 2023, McAllen Refrigeration replaced one air conditioning unit. The second unit was also replaced in the last six years or so (I’ll have to look for that paperwork, also installed by Tim Curl).
  • Attic insulation was added in 2020.
  • The garage door was replaced in 2013, and the garage door opener 7’ Liftmaster was replaced in 2018.  Lone Star Doors.
  • The roof was replaced after the hail storm in 2013.
  • Rockwood shutters were installed in 2015.
  • The majority of plumbing was replaced in the early 2000s.
