On Your Way Home

When you’re heading back to your home state for the summer and when you’re returning home to the Rio Grande Valley in the fall, why not make the journey as fun as the destination? Here are some Welcome Home RGV recommended stops, with links to help you plan your road trip.
Visit Corpus Christi: Northeast of the Valley is the beautiful Gulf Coast city of Corpus Christi, Texas, home to the U.S.S. Lexington, the Texas State Aquarium, the South Texas Botanical Gardens & Nature Center, and Whataburger by the Bay, just to name a few of the must-see attractions. Link for more information, go to visitcorpuschristi.com.
I-10 Community Alliance: The I-10 Community Alliance has done all the work for you when it comes to exploring towns and cities along the I-10 corridor in Texas. The website, i10communityalliance.com, hosts direct links to wonderful attractions, including state parks, historic churches, breweries, museums, art, and loads more—”Just a little off I-10”!
Texas Forts Trail: Calling all history buffs; this one’s for you. Central West Texas is home to the Texas Forts Trail. Travelers can visit a single fort–or a handful of forts–on their way north or when coming south. For the more adventurous, try the full 650-mile driving loop spanning 29 counties. For a complete map of the loop or for more information on individual forts, visit texastimetravel.com/regions/forts-trail/.
Texas Historical Commission: Have you ever been on a road trip and passed a historical marker too late to stop? Plan ahead with thc.texas.gov, home to a complete list of historic courthouses, markers, and sites–not to mention an informative blog on all things Texas!
