Lakewood Celebrates 30th Year of Christmas for the Children

Special to Welcome Home Winter Texan

Ahh…winter in South Texas is anticipated this time of year. As Winter Texan residents return to the Valley at Lakewood RV Resort, it’s time to prepare for the 30th Christmas for the Children project. This year, Lakewood residents are providing Christmas for 15 less fortunate families from a local elementary school, where many Lakewood RV Resort Winter Texans have spent time mentoring students over the years. This annual project started with the Lakewood Worship Committee decades ago.

Fundraisers for this project include a dance with Leslie Blasing on January 4, 2024, from 7 – 9 p.m.; a breakfast on February 3, 2024, from 7:30 – 9 a.m.; and a soup luncheon and bake sale on March 8, 2024, from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

Residents also held a quilt raffle, choosing the winner on December 4. Lakewood quilting ladies designed the quilt.

As chair of this project, Winter Texan Donna Wright explained how the project works. “On the day of the Christmas for the Children party, the families come to our RV Resort for fun with Santa and Mrs. Claus and meet our residents,” she explained. “They enjoy cookies, punch, and fellowship and receive groceries, gifts, and a handmade quilt, in addition to items for each child and a special gift for the mother of the family. We receive a warm sense of the season in our hearts, serving God doing His work.”
