Tamales are a holiday tradition in South Texas. Families typically serve homemade or locally purchased tamales on Christmas Eve, but they’re a delicious option throughout the holiday season. Savory flavors include chicken and cheese, spicy pork, cream cheese and jalapeño; sweet varieties include fruit, nuts, and sweet cream cheese. Pro tip when serving tamales: Provide a plate or bowl for the corn husks.
